Dinner Conversations

Meals at our house can get a little crazy: on one side of the table is Alyssa yelling for more food (since she inhales anything that is put in front of her!) and once she is done she then takes her hands and any food remaining and smears it all over her face, head arms while she inpatiently waits for Ashley to finish her meal (this can be a pain-stakingly slow process!) Some of the conversations that we have around this crazy table, our priceless and I really need to start doing a better job of writing some of this down. Here is just a sampling of what has been discussed the past couple meals.

Sunday evening while we were eating supper here is what I was asked:
Ashley: Mom, why can't we see God and Jesus?
Me: Well, they live up in Heaven and we live on earth.
Ashley: Can you tell me the story of God and Jesus?
Me: (thinking, okay, tell the entire story of the Bible to a 4 yr. old-here we go) Well, God made people, animals, flowers and trees. Jesus was God's Son who was born remember we celebrate that at Christmas, then he did and came back to life and now lives up in Heaven with God. If we believe in God and Jesus then we will see them when we die and go to Heaven. (she took that answer..)
Ashley: Why don't we go to Heaven when we are alive?
Me: Heaven is a special place that we go to after we are no longer living.
*We now move to the scientific side of creation*
Ashley: Do we live ON the earth or IN the earth?
Me: I guess we live ON the earth, you can't live inside the earth.

Monday's dinner conversation was much more light-hearted. Ashley is beginning to learn "knock knock" jokes. These "jokes" are great because she just looks around the room and picks whatever she might see and puts it into the joke! Here are just a few of some great jokes I am told
Ashley: Knock Knock
Me: Whose there?
Ashley: Clock Head
Me: Clock Head who?
Ashley: Clock Head Tree

Ashley: Knock Knock
Me: Whose there?
Ashley: HighChair
Me: Highchair who?
Ashley: Highchair Clock Nose

This comedic streak must be genetic because my youngest sister, Sarah had a knock knock joke that lasted for years-so to show you where Ashley gets it from:
Sarah (at age 4): Knock Knock
Us: Whose there?
Sarah: Banana
Us: Banana who?
Sarah: Banana Ketchup

More dinner conversations to come....
